The Company of Community Organisers (COLtd) is the legacy body for the national Community Organisers programme. COLtd is continuing to build on the programme’s work to nurture a grassroots movement for community organising, emerging directly from the hopes and concerns of neighbourhoods all over England. We know that Community Organising gives local communities stronger voices through building powerful local networks. And, as the national network organisation for qualified Community Organisers, COLtd can help amplify these voices at a regional and national level www.corganisers.org.uk
We are delighted to be managing the Community Organisers Mobilisation Fund (COM Fund) which is funded by the Cabinet Office and Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).
The COM Fund will be providing grants of up to £16,000 to run community organising projects which utilise or have the potential to utilise the Community Rights and/or Neighbourhood Planning powers introduced in the Localism Act 2011.
Awards were made on 30th October 2015 and all grant funding must be spent by June 2016. All projects are led by a Community Organiser (paid or voluntary) who have been trained through the Cabinet Office funded Community Organisers Programme which ran from 2011 to 2015.
The fund is targeted at Community Organisers working in deprived neighbourhoods who support local groups to make use of the Community Rights and Neighbourhood Planning.
The specific Community Rights, as set out in the 2011 Localism Act, are:
- The Community Right to Bid
- The Community Right to Challenge
- The Community Right to Build, and,
- Neighbourhood Planning.
